5.1 Suchの代名詞用法 そのような人「物・事」
5.1.1 前出の名詞を受ける：ややかたい表現
Such is life. 人生なんてそんなものさ。
5.1.2 代名詞suchを含む慣用表現
※such as 「たとえば～のような」
I read many good books last summer, such as War and Peace, and Crime and Punishment.
私はこの夏に「戦争と平和」「罪と罰」などの名作をたくさん読みました。

1. He’s a good man and is known as such to everyone.
彼は善良な人間で、善良な人間としてみんなに知られている。

21 前方照応的に「そのような」
Such weather is unusual here. そのような天気はここでは異常である。
I never heard of such a method. そんな方法のことは一度も聞かなかった。
= I never heard a method like that.
22 強調的に「とても～な」「それほどの～」
Don’t be in such a hurry. そんなに急がないで

All such books are useful. そういう本はみな役立つ。
I said no such thing. そんなことは言わなかった。

23 接続詞 that such + a +形容詞＋名詞＋that節… 「非常に～なーなので…だ」
We have had such a wonderful time. 私達はとても楽しい時間を過ごした。
He was such a nice boy that everybody loved him.
彼はとても良い少年なので皆彼を愛した。
She behaved in such a way that the young man thought she loved him
彼女は彼女がその青年を愛しているように思わせるよう振舞った。
24 関係代名詞 as such + Ａ（名詞）＋as Ｂ～ 「ＢするようなＡ」
Read such books as will benefit you. ためになるような本を読みなさい．
25 such A as to do 「～するほどのＡ」 （参照５－１－３）
I am not such a fool as to believe that.
そんなことを信じるほど愚かではありません。
5.2 soの用法 （副詞的用法は副詞４－３－２参照）
5.2.1 動詞の目的語として
It’s likely to rain. Yes, I think so [=that it is likely to rain].
雨が降りそうだ。ええ、そう思います。
5.2.2 補語として名詞・形容詞などの代わりに
She is beautiful, and I hope she will remain so for ever. [第２文型]
彼女は美しいが、今後もずっとそうであることを望む。
She is a romantic, and he thinks himself so too. [第５文型]
彼女はロマンチストだが彼は自分がロマンチストだと思っている。
5.2.3 So am (are, is, etc. ) 主語 ～もまたそうです。
So 主語 am ( are, is, etc.) 〔同意・賛成や驚きを表して〕そのとおりで、まったく
“Susan is married.” “So is Mary.” スーザンは結婚している。― メアリーもだ。
“He is a good English speaker.” “So he is.”
彼は英語を話すのが上手ですね。― まったくです。
※ be動詞が助動詞の場合、soは副詞 （副詞４－３－２⑥・⑦）
“He can speak English.” “So can I.” 彼は英語が話せる。－－私もだ。
5.2.4. soを含む慣用表現
I’ll be back in a week or so. 私は１週間かそこらで戻ります。
I like beer, whiskey, wine, and so on. 私はビール、ウイスキー、ワイン、などなどが好きです。
the sameの用法
5.3 the same 同じ（こと、もの）
5.3.1 代名詞・形容詞的用法のthe same
I said it was a nice day, and she said the same.
私はいい天気だと言い、彼女も同じことを言った。
( The ) same again, please. (酒場で) 同じ物をお願いします。
It’s the same with other foods. そのことは他の多くの食物についていも言える。
“Hi” and “high” are pronounced the same. [副詞的] hiとhighは発音が同じだ。
These two buildings are the same height. [形容詞的] これら２つの建物は高さが同じだ。
5.3.2 the sameと関係代名詞 that, as
[the same～as]は、同一種類、[the same～that]は同一物を表すといわれるが、この区別は現在守られていない。
He has the same bicycle as I (do). 彼は私と同じ自転車を持っている。
He made the same mistakes that he had made before. 彼は以前と同じ間違いをした。
5.3.3 the sameを含む慣用表現
They eat much the same thing for breakfast. 彼らは毎日朝食にほとんど同じ物を食べる。
A happy new year! ----(The) same to you! 新年おめでとう。 おめでとう。
He has a lot of faults, but I like him all the same.
彼は多くの欠点があるが、それでもやはり私は彼が好きだ。
Superman and Mr. Kent are one and the same.
スーパーマンとケント氏はまったく同一の人物だ。
You may go today or tomorrow; it comes [amounts] to the same thing.
行くのは今日でも明日でもいいよ。結局同じことだから。
It’s all the same to me whether you are rich or not.
