(=He did it according to how he had been told)

ご存知のように風車は風によって回り続けます。
（但し、このasは擬似関係代名詞とも考えられる。）

Mr. Smith is popular, as teachers go. スミス氏は、先生としては人気がある。
As marriages go, it was a good one. 結婚生活としてはよいほうであった。
He is not bad, as politicians go. 政治家としては彼は悪くない。

関係代名詞whatを使った構文「A is to B what C is to D」は「As A is to B, (so) C is to D」
Two is to four what five is to ten = Two is to four as five is to ten.
= As two is to four, (so) five is to ten. ２対４は５対１０．（数字の場合はasが普通）
10.2 as if, as though 「あたかも～のごとく」
10.2.1 仮定法
He cried as if he were a child. 彼はまるで子供のように泣いた。
He looked as if he hadn't slept for a week. 彼はまるで１週間眠っていないように見えた。
※as if節はS+Vが省略されることがある
He turned toward me as if (he wanted) to let me know something.
彼は私に何かを知らせたいかのように私の方を振り向いた。

She is walking as if she doesn’t know where she's going.
彼女はどこに行くのかあたかも分からないように歩いている。

It was strange the way (= how, that ) he said it. 彼がそう言ったのは不思議だ。
I wonder if you feel the way I do. あなたも私と同じように感じるかしら。
No one can understand the way (=how much) I miss her.
彼女がいないのをどんなにさびしく思っているかだれにもわからない。
She sang the way I did. 彼女は私の歌う通りに歌った。
10.4 like = asの略式 「～と同じように」 （like節中の動詞は通例do）
She swims like I do. 彼女は私と同じように泳ぐ。
