4.7 thatの注意すべき用法
4.7.1 名詞の繰り返しを避けるthat[those]
that[those]は、that[those] of～の形で名詞の反復を避けるのに用いられる。反復される二番目の代名詞が複数にあたるときにはthose of～を用いる。
The climate of Kyushu is milder than that [=the climate] of Hokkaido.
九州の気候は北海道の気候より温和である。
The ears of a rabbit are longer than those [the ears] of a cat.
ウサギの耳は猫の耳より長い。
4.7.2 that[those] which [～するもの] ； those who [～する人々]
That which [=What] many people say is not always true.
大勢の人の言うことがいつも本当とは限らない。
