10.1.1 形容詞は後ろにつける

10.1.2 –‘sをつけて所有格を作る
Everybody’s business is nobody’s business. 《諺》共同責任は無責任
This is somebody else’s key. これは誰かほかの人の鍵だ。
10.1.3 肯定文にはsome―、
疑問文・否定文・条件文にはany― 「誰か～、どれでもみな、なんでも」
肯定文でany―は「誰でも」になる。原則としてsome、anyと同じ
Somebody ate it. 誰かがそれを食べた。
There isn’t anyone [anybody] in the house. 家にはだれもいない。
If anyone [anybody] calls on me, please tell them I’ll be back soon.
だれか会いに来たら、すく帰ると言って下さい。
Anyone [Anybody] knows that he is kind. 彼がとても親切なのはだれでも知っている。
注：-bodyの方が-oneより口語的
There is something in the box. 箱の中に何か入っている。
Can I do anything for you? 何かあなたに出来ることはありませんか。
If you know anything about it, please let me know.
それについてご存知でしたら教えて下さい。
Something is wrong with this machine. この機械はどこか故障している。

10.2 no―
10.2.1 否定Any-～not…の語順はない。[not～any-…]でまったく…ない
× Anything did not happen.
○ Nothing happened. 何も起こらなかった。
10.2.2 not anything = nothing, not anybody = nobody, not anyone = no one
○ I don’t have anything to do today. 今日は何もすることがない。
I have nothing to do today.
10.2.3 nothing 無
Nothing comes from nothing. 無からは無しか生じない。まかぬ種は生えぬ。
10.3 特殊な意味になる場合の複合代名詞
10.3.1 ―body, ―one,
somebody ひとかどの人、相当な人物
anybody [否定文・疑問文・条件文で] ひとかどの人、相当な人物
[肯定文] つまらない人間
nobody 取るに足らない人・平凡な人
He thinks he is somebody. 彼は自分を偉い人物と思っている。
If you want to be anybody, you must study hard.
ひとかどの人物になりたいなら一生懸命勉強しなければならない。
There were somebodies and nobodies at the party.
パーティーには有名無名の人々が出席していた。
He is a nobody. 彼はただの人だ。
10.3.2 ―thing
①. everything 最も大切なもの
His reply means everything to us.
彼の返事は私達にとって重要な意味[最も重要なこと]を持つ。
Money isn’t everything to me. 金がすべてではない｡（部分否定）

II. ひとかどの人物
There is something to[in] what he says. 彼の言うことには一理ある。
You’ve got something there. それはいい考えだ。
He thinks that he is something. 彼は自分をひとがどの人物と思っている。
She has something about her. 彼女には何かしら人をひきつけるところがある。
10.3.3 somethingがはっきりしない金額・時間・人につく
The price was seven hundred and something yen. 価格は７００円あまりだった。
He is seventy something. 彼は７０歳そこらだ。
John something-or-other called on you. ジョンなにがしが君を訪ねて来た。
You will see something of the world. 世間を多少知るようになるだろう。
10.4 複合代名詞の慣用表現
10.4.1 everything
and everything その他あらゆるもの、何もかも(and so on)
before everything 何よりも、何はさておき
in spite of everything ともかく
like everything 《米口語》 激しく、ひどく、猛烈に、全力で、元気いっぱいに
10.4.2 something
Something is the matter [wrong] with my doorbell. 玄関のベルはどこか調子が悪い。
There’s a mouse or something in the kitchen. 台所にネズミか何かがいる。
Something or other seems to be missing. 何かが不足しているようだ。
Mary something-or-other called for you.
メーリーとかいう人があなたに電話してきましたよ。
Do you think we started something? やっかいなことになりそうだね。
something else はっとするすごい人（物）、言うに言われぬもの
something like, anything like
He is something like his father. 彼は父親に多少似ている。
否定文・疑問文・条件文 ～に近いもの、～といえるもの、～などはとうてい
There isn’t anything like enough light to read by.
とても読書できるほどの明るさはない。
否定文 少しも、全然
She is not anything like her mother. 彼女は母親とはまるで違う。
something of, anything of 「ちょっとした～」
He is something of a musician. 彼はちょっとした音楽家だ。
疑問文・否定文 …がいくらか、少しは、ちょっとでも、少しでも
Is there anything of a gentleman here? 少しでも紳士らしい人がここにいるだろうか。
I see something of him. 私は彼と時々会う。
否定文 少しも～でない
I haven’t seen anything of him lately. 近頃はさっぱり彼と会わない。
10.4.3 anything
She is as modest as anything.
彼女は（何物と比べても劣らないくらいに）とてもおしとやかだ。
I wouldn’t do it for anything. 私はどんなことがあってもそれをしない。
Ben, if anything, was a sensible man. ベンはどちらかといえば分別のある人だった。
True love has little, if anything, to do with money.
真の愛は、金とは、たとえ関係があるにしても、ほとんど無関係だ。
John is anything but (=far from) a good loser.
ジョンがまけっぷりがいいなんてとんでもない。
10.4.4 nothing
He is nothing to her. 彼は彼女とは関係ない。
He does nothing but laugh. 彼はただ笑ってばかりいる。
I’ll do it for nothing. 無料でそれをしましょう。
He spent much money for nothing. 彼はやたらに無駄金を使った。
This book was good for nothing. この本は何の役にもたたなかった。
I have nothing of him. 彼とは係わり合いがない。
I have no pencil, no book, no nothing. 鉛筆も本も何もない。
=Non standard (- ＋ -)
We can see nothing but fog. =only 霧以外は何も見えない。
He is nothing but a fool. =only 彼はただの愚か者にすぎない。
We were given nothing other than water. 私たちは水しか与えられなかった。
Think nothing of it. 気にしない。
There is nothing for it but to surrender. 降参するより仕方がない。
I can make nothing of this problem. その問題を理解できない。
